Saturday night, 6/14.
Saturday night thread time..
Stuff's happening tonight. No need to instantly react, but we should be aware of it. https://www.oregonlive.com/.../protest-at-portland-ice...
Federal agents have deployed what is believed to be tear gas at hundreds of people gathered outside ICE HQ on Macadam. And, from the Portland Police X account, which retweets announcements made to the crowd: "This is Portland Police. To those near S Moody and S Bancroft, this has been declared a riot. The area near S Moody and S Bancroft is now closed. All persons must immediately leave the area by traveling to the north."
Also happening now, if you're expecting someone, from Tripcheck: " US 26 is closed two miles east of US 101 due to a crash. This closure could last several hours." That was as of 04:16 PM, but it's still closed at 0700.
Oh! if you have pix or something to say about today, we'd love to hear over on FB. Especially pix. Let's try to influence the algorythms with an overwhelming ratio of good vs bad images. BTW, for those who've asked, you bet: I grabbed my Dad's flag and stood among a no-Kings group I'd spotted on my way home from the pool. How could I not?
Easy, everyone, it's going to be a long night. Let's hope that smarter and calmer heads prevail, and that people understand that whatever happens in Portland tonight will just be additional footage for the city's rap going forward.
